My PCM System

I just finished the first release of my PCM (personal content management system). The system I built uses CouchDB, SimpleDB, and a few servlets written in Java to listen, store, aggregate, and publish all the content I produce on Twitter, delicious, NyTimes People, this blog, and other sites. The nice thing, I can still use the regular interface of all those sites to enter content, while in the background my system is gathering that content automatically. That content then gets stored twice, in a local database and in the "Amazon cloud". From where the content then gets published to the ticker page in my new blog: Neuhäusler Weekly.

.. and of course I already have a ton of ideas how I could improve the system :-) ..

BBC starts to rock online world

BBC starts to rock online world: "The BBC has staked a claim to a virtual tropical island where it can stage online music festivals and throw exclusive celebrity parties.

The rented island exists in online game Second Life and will hold its first event this weekend with bands including Muse, Razorlight and Gnarls Barkley.

The virtual party will mirror BBC Radio 1's real-world, One Big Weekend event, being held in Dundee from 12 May.

Radio 1 plans to use the island to debut new bands over the next year."

(Via BBC News.)

Another article about that event (Via Wonderland).

.. the whole virtual world business is getting serious .. those Second Life developers put some fascinating, extendable technology in place .. I still haven't tried out Second Life yet .. I probably should ..

Sun Grid radically simplifies the way you select, acquire, and use next generation IT infrastructure. "

HonorTags

.. don't know if that will fly ..

HonorTags, as proposed by Dan Gillmor, should help readers find content they can trust, and help journalists, bloggers, podcasters and other creators build that trust within their communities. As a creator, you can tag the postings on your own blog or other site to indicate your intentions.

The Freesound Project

The Freesound Project:

Based on technology from MTG, the Freesound Project looks like an intriguing source for podcasters and others:

The Freesound Project aims to create a huge collaborative database of audio snippets, samples, recordings, bleeps, … released under the Creative Commons Sampling Plus License. The Freesound Project provides new and interesting ways of accessing these samples, allowing users to

* browse the sounds in new ways using keywords, a ‘sounds-like’ type of browsing and more
* up and download sounds to and from the database, under the same creative commons license
* interact with fellow sound-artists!

We also aim to create an open database of sounds that can also be used for scientific research. Many audio research institutions have trouble finding correctly licensed audio to test their algorithms. Many have voiced this problem, but so far there hasn’t been a solution.
